Myo Chung
? ~ 1135 / Buddhist priest of Koryeo / Birth Place: Suhkyung(Pyoungyang) / A.k.a. Jung Shim
Using his ability to prophesize along with personal network established with the help of Baik-Soo-Han, a prominent political figure at the time, he made his way to the world of politics. In 1127,(5th year of King In) when he became chief advisor for the Royal Court, he made suggestions to the king for the Confucianist code of law and devised plans to move the capital to Suhkyung as a way of curbing the force of former statesmen. In 1129, his attempts to convince the king to invade Keum and other countries failed because of the opposing toadies including Kim Bu Shik and others. When his attempt to convince the king to move the capital failed again 1134, he formed his own country which he named Dae Wee (with Chun Gae as the title of his reign) and, in 1135, led his troops based in the city of Suhkyung in rebellion against the king. However, the royal army led by Kim Bu Shik defeated Myo Chung’s troops, and Myo Chung’s life was ended at the hand of Jo Kwang who was one of his subordinates.
