The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism will hold an event in Paris to promote Hansik (traditional food).
The ministry on Aug. 1 said that along with the Korea Craft and Design Foundation, it will host the 2024 Promotion Campaign of Korean Food from Aug. 2-7.
Events from Aug. 2-4 at the square of the French capital's 15th arrondissement (district) will include exhibitions of Hansik culture, food sampling and interactive programs on traditional culture.
Visitors can see exhibitions of tableware such as white versions and earthenware. They can also taste traditional snacks like dashik, or snacks in decorative shapes usually served with tea, or yakgwa, or deep-fried honey cookies, and jeon (pancake) varieties made with kimchi, chives and potato.
People can also play traditional games such as jegichagi (kicking a shuttlecock), tuho (pitch-pot), top spinning and gonggi (Korean jacks).
Classes on Hansik culture from Aug. 6-7 at Oori Center in central Paris will have students make neobiani, or thinly sliced meat made for the royal court of the Joseon Dynasty, and pickled cabbage and taste traditional alcohol. Reservations can be made on the website of the Korean Cultural Center in Paris and Oori's social media.
Lee Haedon, director-general of the ministry's Culture Policy Bureau, said, "We hope that this event presents a special opportunity to promote traditional Korean culinary culture to the world and experience the deep history and cultural values within that culture."
