Sejong, 10 September 2024 — On 6 September, H.E. PARK Beomsu, ViceMinister of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs of the Republic of Korea, andH.E. Charlie McConalogue, Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine of theRepublic of Ireland, met together in Seoul and discussed ways for bilateral cooperationin the agriculture sector, including the areas of smart farming and eco-friendlyfarming practices. The two sides signed a Letter of Intent (LoI) on collaborationin the area of sustainable farming systems.
TheRepublic of Korea and the Republic of Ireland have been in solidarity in termsof pursuing a transition to sustainable farming systems by presenting theirgreenhouse gas emissions targets and increasing investments in agriculturalinnovation.
Bothsides will discuss the details on way for bilateral cooperation and develop theLoI into the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) by taking advantage of their ownstrengths such as South Korea’s ICT-based smart farming and Ireland’senvironment-conscious agricultural practices.
ViceMinister Park Beomsu said: “Many South Korean companies are gaining acompetitive edge in a global market by developing and enhancing smart-farmingtechnologies. I expect that the LoI signing will lead to opportunities forSouth Korea to share its smart farming cases with Ireland.”
ViceMinister Park and Minister McConalogue also discussed other agriculturalmatters, including expansion of trade of agricultural and food products.
