Annual Culture Month features array of events nationwide

The annual Culture Month features many events nationwide this month.


The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism on Oct. 10 said that along with Namwon, Jeollabuk-do Province, it will host programs from Oct. 18-20 at Gwanghalluwon Garden in the southern city.


A welcoming performance by pansori (solo lyrical opera) maestros Wang Giseok and Lee Nancho is scheduled at Wanweoljeong Pavilion of Gwanghalluwon. Singer Song Ga-in on Oct. 18 will hold a joint performance with the Namwon National Gugak Center.


Oct. 19 will see Namwon City Arts Troupe perform and "Fusion! Sound Concert" follows the next day with fusion gugak (traidtional music) and jazz.


The diverse cultural events held this month in the nation's 17 cities and provinces include exhibitions, performances and festivals.


The Fall K-Royal Culture Festival runs through Oct. 13 at the four Seoul palaces of Gyeongbokgung, Changdeokgung, Changgyeonggung and Deoksugung. The Joseon Royal Tombs Festival from Oct. 13-22 features the king's five burial sites throughout the country.


Other events feature each region's culture like the K Stage Festa (Oct. 4-Nov. 10), Daegu International Opera Festival (Oct. 4-Nov. 8) and Jinju Namgang Yudeung (Lantern) Festival (Oct. 8-22).
