A festival throughout Seoul will highlight Korean food, which has captivated the taste buds of people worldwide.
The Seoul Metropolitan Government on Nov. 4 announced its hosting of this year's Seoul Food Week from Nov. 8-14 throughout the capital at venues like Nodeulseom Island.
Under the theme "Invitation to a Weeklong Gourmet Tour of Seoul," the event features programs like "Invitation to a Traveling Market" spotlighting culinary culture nationwide in one place; "Longstanding Invitations to Different Classes" featuring traditional markets; and "Unique Invitations to Sampling" through a distinct gourmet tour.
Celebrity chef and culinary expert Hong Shin-ae on the week's opening day of Nov. 8 will host a kimchi event for foreign participants at Gyeongdong Market in Seoul's Dongaemun-gu District.
About 100 teams from Nov. 9-10 will take part in the Seoul Culinary Market ("Invitation to a Traveling Market"). On Nov. 10, the 100 Taste of Seoul Awards at Nodeul Live House will have chefs ranked among the city's top 100, food industry representatives, and domestic and foreign media.
Some 120 businesses including restaurants ranking among the top 100 in the city, department stores and Gyeongdong's Youth Mall will offer special items and discounts.
Young chefs who gained popularity through the Netflix reality TV series "Culinary Class Wars" will host the program "Hip Invitation from Gen MZ (millennials and Z) Chefs" for the public featuring reinterpretations of specialties in Seoul. Such dishes include the Shindang-dong neighborhood's famous tteokbokki (spicy rice cake) and Jangchung-dong's pig's feet.
