Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Finance Choi Sang Mok and Minister of Foreign Affairs Cho Tae-yul have stressed to foreign correspondents in Korea their confidence in quick restoration of national affairs through "a sound and resilient economic system."
Both officials said this on Dec. 18 at a joint news conference held at KOCIS Center in Seoul's Jung-gu District.
"Korea has undergone similar political difficulty in the past," Minister Choi said. "But our constitutional system, economic system and emergency response system ran well each time by overcoming political uncertainty and reducing its effect on the economy, displaying our resilience."
"We are again faced with unexpected difficulty, but I firmly believe that the situation will be quickly stabilized through our sound and resilient economic system," he added. "We sincerely ask for your continuous support and confidence in the Korean economy."
Minister Cho said, "We hope that all of you inform your home countries and the international community that the Korean public and 2.7 million expats are going about their daily lives under safe public order and foreign tourists have no problems traveling the country."
"Through this opportunity, I'm sure that the Republic of Korea's democracy will level up," he added. "In line with this, our diplomacy will regain its status and confidence with the international community and continue playing its responsible role."
