Youth from multicultural families will receive stronger public support for entering society.

The Ministry of Employment and Labor on Feb. 26 announced the launch this year of customized education for multicultural youth at 10 campuses nationwide of the vocational college Korea Polytechnics and employment training for 200 such people.

The specialized education features a new and customized curriculum to boost the self-reliance capacity of youth from multicultural families and support their stable entry into society.

Those eligible for this program are children who were born and raised in the country by a Korean national and a marriage immigrant under the Multicultural Families Support Act; children who immigrated after growing up in their home country following their immigrant parent's remarriage to a Korean; and younger marriage immigrants ages 18-34 who want to get a job.

The six-month curriculum includes those for precious metal processing, video content creation and editing, computer applications and machinery, fashion design and marketing.

The ministry said that in addition to core technology training including that for industrial safety, courses in Korean on computer use and technical fields will be offered.

"The recently increasing trend of multicultural families necessitates support for their stable settlement in Korean society," said Kwon Tae-sung, director general of the ministry's Vocational Skills Policy Bureau. "We will expand customized education to allow youth from multicultural families to show their potential and develop into future talent."
